Dr. Eaton - <br> Dear Brother: <br> Let me give you a few items in proof of the need of Christian education in Utah, at this present time. <br> I received a letter yesterday from a Christian young lady, a graduate of Park college from which I give you an extract. She writes - "I have made several attempts to secure employment in the public schools of Utah but have received only negative answers, or no answers at all. The first question asked by the trustees is, ‘Will you be willing to instruct the children one lesson** per week in _______*** Theology? ________________*** <br><br><br> *All words preceding asterisk are part of a typewritten header; the rest of the document is handwritten. <br> **Transcriber uncertain of word. <br> ***These sections are the bottom written lines on the page; the paper has been torn and words are illegible. <br><br> [Continued from previous page.] <br> miss your children one hour early that day, and call them together again to receive a theological lecture?' <br> You can imagine my answer to such a question." <br> Here is another item - A Mr. Sullen**, a teacher of several years experience, who holds a perpetual certificate to teach in Idaho, made application for a school, a few weeks ago, in that state. You know that southern Idaho is as thoroughly Mormon as Utah. <br> He was informed that "they must have a man to teach who could help them in the work of the Mormon Church." <br> Still another - I was in Soda Springs last week, a small town in southern Idaho, where the Barnock** Co. Teachers Institute was in session. Prof. Hickman, a nephew of the notorious Daurite,** Bill Hickman, was leading the teachers of the country in instruction. He undertook to demonstrate, by a diagram on the black board, the Mormon doctrine that every man is a germ** of a God, and to show how we become** Gods. This he did without any rebuke from the County Superintendent of instruction.
