Show THE CHURCH REVIEW.

Among the Churches.

FIRST BAPTIST.
Our people will hold a social in the church next Thursday evening and also make it a reception for Miss Eyles, our new missionary. The members of the church hereby extend an earnest invitation to all the friends in the congregation and hope to make it an occasion or renewing and enlarging their acquaintance. An informal program is in preparation and a good time promised.
Several of our people have formerly given special attention to the Kindergarten. Any service they can render Miss Eales in the inauguration of her work will be greatly appreciated.

EAST SIDE BAPTIST.
The pastor spent Monday and Tuesday at Ogden. Mr. Rankin the evangelist is holding a series of meetings in the Methodist church, all the churches uniting. There was a good attendance and excellent interest for Monday evening and the outlook is good for a precious revival.

Thursday evening a reception was given Miss Morford. The basement was made very homelike and cozy by parlor furniture and mats and especially by a large floral display, the kindness of Mr. Murphy of the Lafayette establishment. Over one hundred friends were present. An address of welcome was given by pastor and response by Miss Morford. Then came an excellent program of recitations and readings interspersed with vocal and instrumental music. Each one seemed to be at the best, but a mandolin solo by Miss Smith deserves special mention. Refreshment followed the program.

FIRST M. E. CHURCH.
Miss Lottie Burch and Miss Lizzie Bond have moved to No. 6th Fourth East Street.
Brother E. E. Lyman has established himself in the drug business at 59 Fast Second South St. So far as we know, he is the only Methodist druggist in the city. He and Sister Lyman have taken up quarters over the store where they will be glad to receive their friends.
Sister J. H. McIntyre has so far recovered from her protracted illness as to go to Ogden on a short visit.
Brother Shaw and family have moved to 749 South West Temple Street,
Sister Elizabeth Ivens has moved to 27, Fourth East Street,
Brother Fred Eberhart and family have moved to 429 East Second South Street.
The meetings during the past week have been of the true revival type. Conviction has taken hold of a number of people and some have found peace with God. There has not been the full and hearty cooperation on the part of the church which we have the right to expect; but this may yet come. The meetings will continue every night this week except Saturday. Friday evening will be devoted to the young people. Now let us all go in for victory this week.
Come to the meetings and invite others to come with you.
Talk about the meetings. Tell your friends what good meetings we are having.
Come to the Epworth League meeting at 6:30 o'clock this evening.
Teachers of the Sunday school, now is the time to work for the conversion of your scholars.

CENTRAL CHRISTIAN.
The ladies are at work upon the Thanksgiving Dinner. They are going to make a success of it. They want to feed four hundred people that day; and they will if you will only help them. They will serve two dinners, one from 12 p. m. to 2:30 p. m., and the second from 5 p. m. to 8 p. m. Tine price for each meal will be fifty cents, and it will be worth it as you can see from the following "bill of fare."
Soup, Celery, Pepper Sauce
Roast Turkey with Cranberry Sauce.
A La Mode Mutton.
Mashed Potatoes, Corn, Baked Beans,
Cabbage Salad.
Pumpkin Pie, Mince Pie.
Pickles, Cheese.
Bread and Butter.
Tea and Coffee.
Fruit.
During the past week the audience room has been in the hands of the frescoers. They will have possession one week more, then it will be ours.
Two socials in one week, and both a success, is a pretty good record for any society. This was what our society did the past week. One was at the pastor's and the other with Miss Effie Tilden at Waterloo.
L. E. Berkey, one of our best workers, left on Friday morning last for California where he will make his home for the future. To say that we regret to give him up but feebly expresses our feelings in this case. Bro. Berkey came into our church in February 1891, and a week later entered our Endeavor society. He had little or no experience in church work, but he had the will, and in four years past he has made himself felt in every department of our church. Indeed, one whose eyes are open to the interest of the cause, said he had become a "pack horse" for the congregation. We have no doubt as to his success-such will always succeed- but with him go our prayers and best wishes for his future welfare. |
