THE CHURCH REVIEW. <br><br> PRESBYTERIAN. <br><br> VOL. 2 / SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH, NOVEMBER 18, 1894 / No. 47. <br><br> FIRST PRESBYTERIAN. <br> The subject for prayer meeting next Wednesday evening is "Witnessing for Christ," Acts 1:8. <br><br> The regular monthly meeting of the Woman's Missionary Society last Tuesday afternoon was well attended and unusually interesting. Miss Whiteman and Mrs. Peyton gave interesting accounts of their visit to Mexico during the summer, and exhibited many souvenirs of their trip. <br><br> The funeral of Mrs. Bascom last Sunday afternoon was the largest funeral of any private person that we have ever seen in this city, and that it is not often that one's death causes grief among people of so many classes and creeds. Specially significant was the presence of so many sorrowing representatives from the ranks of the needy, who seemed to think they had lost a personal friend. <br><br> The annual meeting of the Women's Home Missionary Society will be held in the church at 7:30 this evening, taking the place of the regular service. There ought to be a large attendance of the members of the church in whose behalf this important work is carried on. After the opening exercises the following program will be carried out: Anthem by the choir; Introductory address by the president, Mrs. Caskey; Missionary items by the young ladies of the Collegiate University; Address on "Mexico from a religious standpoint," by Miss Whiteman; Solo by Mrs. Donaldson; Home Mission work in New Mexico, by Mrs. W. R. Hutchinson; Collection; Singing; Treasurer's Report; Benediction. Mrs. Bascom's winning face and voice will be greatly missed at this meeting, because for years she has looked after the financial work of the society and as treasurer made the report. She was also active in the regular work of the society. An important question for each member of the church to ask is this, am I so identified with the Christian work of the church that my departure would cause me to be missed and mourned by the church? If not, something is wrong, for we read in Mark 13:34 that the Lord has given "to every man his work." <br><br> The four central churches, First Methodist, First Presbyterian, Central Christian and First Congregational, will join in a union Thanksgiving service at the First Presbyterian church at eleven o'clock November 29th. Rev. C. T. Brown will preach the sermon. <br><br> WESTMINSTER. <br><br> We are sorry to lose the valuable help of Mrs. Ephriam Caffal who is leaving for Nevada to join her husband there. She expects to be absent six months. We shall all long for their return. Meanwhile, we wish them "God Speed." <br><br> Our Sunday school continues to increase steadily in numbers. The delegates from Westminster school to the Territorial Sunday School Convention are as follows: Mr. Arnold, Miss Ida Buhring, Mrs. Sibley and Mr. Gurley. <br><br> The social given by the Y. P. S. C. E. was thoroughly enjoyed. Those pleasant reunions are most serviceable in promoting good fellow feeling, and allow new members of the congregation to make acquaintances with each other.
