Show OW L . LAMM 1 the Bofors anti -aircraft guns. LOW: Uh-huh, 40-millimeter cannons. Well the fellows would come and buy candy ice cream, and pop at the PX. I'd been there about a week or two weeks and th lieutenant in charge of my platoon came down to my tent which was a little fox tent in the desert on the sand. It was a little pup tent, I guess they called them. He said, "Flamm you haven't been to drill." I said, "No, sir. I've been managing the PX." "Don't talk back to me," he said. "No, sir," I said. He said, "That is going to put you on report, and you're going to have a court martial." So, I said, "Yes, sir." He said, "Report to the first sergeant." So, I reported to the first sergeant. The lieutenant says, "I'm on report, and I've got to have a court martial, or a company punishment, according to what the commanding officer desires." I said, "What do you think I ought to do sergeant?" And, he said, "You'd better do what the CO says." So, I said, "Okay, I'll do what the CO says." So, the next morning I joined three other guys. The shower sump was nothing but a bunch of rocks in a big hole, and it was out in the open. The water was put in big barrels up on top, and they were warmed by the sun, and we'd take our showers there. But, apparently, the sand had gotten in there so that it wouldn't drain. So, our job was to take all the rocks out of this great big shower sump; it was about the size of a big living room. So, the four of us started and we'd pick up these rocks. We'd then get rid of whatever dirt was around 24 1 |
