| Abstract |
Wayne Kimball (b. 1925) reminisces about growing up in Salt Lake City and working in the family laundry business until Pearl Harbor, when he enlisted in the Air Corps. He went to basic flight training in Bakersfield, California, and was assigned to air transport command, which was an aircraft delivery outfit. He later flew aircraft over "the Hump" from India. 39 pages. |

Show WAYNE KIMBALL MARCH 28,2001 WAY: Yeah, just did cover everything. The GI Bill, thank heavens; that was a blessing. BBL: You lived here in Salt Lake, you and Barbara, while you were going to school at the University, and then you lived in Chicago for, what was that, four years? WAY: BBL: WAY: Three. Three years. Through optometry school. The school was then-you could go continuous. There were no summers offunless you wanted to and so I went continuous, got it out of my hair, got home. BBL: Got it done quick. That's great. So you moved back here to Salt Lake, then? WAY: I built a home, initially, that's the home on Robert Avenue [shows picture]. I built it and my father-in-law helped us to build that so I had that while I was going through school when I was back in Chicago. I rented it out to a couple. BBL: WAY: BBL: WAY: BBL: WAY: When you say you built it, you were out there with a hammer andYeah. Yeah? That's something. Yeah, that's been my-I built this house. I didn't realize that. Well, I had a lot ofhelp but I did a lot of work myself. And I built that office that you saw in here [referring to picture]; that also I built. BBL: You came back from school and immediately starting practicing optometry on your own? 32 |
