BBL: JAY: BBL: JAY: BBL: JAY: And you took off. Yeah. Gone in a hurry. So you signed here in Salt Lake. Where did you go from there? From Salt Lake, here, I went up to Farrigut, Idaho. Farrigut? I've never heard of that. Farrigut, Idaho, is a navy base they put together really quick. It was a training station that was just outside of Spokane, Washington. It was up by Lake Pend Oreille. I can't remember the name of the little town that was by there. But it was a beautiful part of the country, but in the wintertilne it was awfully cold. But when I went up there it was the first of May and it was quite nice. BBL: And you stayed up there for how long? JAY: I was up at Ferrigut for two months and then we supposedly graduated, if you want to call it that. But there they gave us all kinds of training and do you want to know anything about our training? BBL: Yes, I do. So this was when you first shipped out, you went up to Farrigut and it was a radio, or electronics-? JAy: No it was a-Farrigut, Idaho, was a basic training station where they sent all the new recruits. And at that station they trained them in the basics of seamanship, well just navy procedures and all. It was there where they taught us how to jump off of a ship. They had some swimming pools there and they had at least thirty 10 |
