So I don't know, according to my grades I don't know if I could ve gotten into a regular tech school or not. But, anyway, I n1ade it. BBL: Yeah. You did pass. That's great. And then I wanted to ask you you said this Commander Eddy. Like E-D-D-Y? JAY: Yeah. E-D-D-Y. BBL: Okay, I wanted to make sure I got that right. So you took the test, you were accepted, and then a couple of days after they told you to wait three months, they called you and said, "Come on, we need you to leave in a week." JAY: Yeah. BBL: And you were seventeen at the time. Did you feel young? I mean did you feel like, "Oh my gosh! I'm too young!" JAY: Oh no, I didn't feel young. I felt very capable of whatever. I didn't have any problem. I know my mother did not want to sign the papers giving her approval for me to go in, being seventeen. My father was very reluctant, but he said, "Well, since you had this opportunity to go into radio work and you seem to be interested in that, this might be a good thing to do." BBL: Right. 9 |
