Show DALE H. WEST June 23, 2000 I should be a seminary teacher. I talked with a religion teacher, one that lived in Pleasant Grove before he taught at theY. I told him I guess I'd go into seminary. He said, "Well what would you do on weekdays?" I said, "I'd teach seminary." He said, "What would you do on Saturday?" I said, "I don't know, probably prepare lessons." He said, "What about Sunday?" I said, "Well, I'm sure I'd be something in the Church." He said, "Well, you'll be teaching the gospel about six or seven days a week. Could you be a gospel teacher? What is your real love?" I told him English. He said, "Alright, try that." S9 I did. WIN: In high school did you have any influential teachers that pointed you in one direction or another? Do you remember any names, or any favorite teachers? DAL: Oh, I remember the names. Well, I remember many things back then, but I don't remember what happened yesterday though. Harry Richards in Chemistry, Viola West and Estelle Fenton in English, and Elroy West in Music. I remember them well. WIN: Did you establish any fast friendships in that era-in high school, or even earlier-or, people that you maintained relationships, or friendships with throughout the years? DAL: Well, primarily through reunions where we got together fairly often. There was one fellow, and he and I were always the ones vying for top honors in class. He became a geology teacher at BYU_ before I taught there. WIN: Who was that? DAL: Kenneth Bullock. WIN: While you were in high school did you participate in any extracurricular activities? Were you involved in athletics, or debate, or school offices? 4 |
