Baxter (b. 1920) grew up in Idaho and joined the Idaho National Guard at seventeen. He was released in 1942 and joined the army, where he volunteered for the Special Service Force. He served in Italy, France, and Norway. 29 pages. |

Show ELDON BAXTER SEPTEMBER 21, 2001 BEC: I see. Oh, that IS also a nice plaque. And then on the back It- I guess I could have read that a couple of years ago, but not anymore. That's too small for me to read. ELD: Oh. Let's see If I can. I can't quite make that out either BEC: Well that's nice anyway That's got your name at the top and "In Memonam," that says. That's great. And then looking at your other-there are a number of books here talking about the history of your bngade-and then there are some certificates. The Silver Maple Leaf. It says, "Certify that Eldon Baxter-" ELD: Endorsed to the Aleutian Islands, Naples, Foggia, Anzio, Rome, Southern France, and the Rhineland. And these are some of the campaigns, Monte Camino, Ante Lorenitantina, Anzio, advance to the Tiber, that's the nver JUSt to the side of Rome. BEC: ELD: Northwest Europe. BEC: Maple Leaf. ELD: BEC: ELD: Uh-huh. Right. And Southern France. And then Monte Carlo, Rome, Italy, '43-'44, Yeah. Been awarded the Canadian Parachute Wings with Silver Yeah. Uh-huh. Hmm. That's nice. Now this was our insignia here that we wore. And this was the insignia when we were-we wore this on our left shoulder and this one on our nght shoulder-when we were In Norway BEC: Norway Yeah.
