Robert Allred (b. 1925) was with the 463rd Parachute Field Artillery and served in Italy, France, Belgium, and Germany. He recalls his childhood in rural Utah, and discusses his training prior to parachuting into France. He was in Bastogne when it was surrounded by the German army and describes his experience there. 89 pages. |

Show with the James Allred bunch, they moved into Spring City. BEN: Okay. And what kind of farm did you have out there? Wa it agricultural? ROB: Agricultural. Grain, hey, some cattle, sheep, stuff like that. BEN: How big was the farm? ROB: Two hundred acres. BEN: Did you run cattle? ROB: We always had cattle and I milked cows. And we had some sheep on it. BEN: Did you have grazing permits anywhere? That kind of thing. ROB: Dad got the sheep- for the years he had sheep, I don't know where the sheep went, but so did the grazing with it. He'd always sheered sheep, all his life. He couldn't get away from that project, so he'd leave me on the farm and he'd go sheer sheep. BEN: Okay, so, where was your home? ROB: My home was in Ephraim. But we had a place with a farm, a little farm house that had been built by the Cherry's, Alvin Cherry, developed that farm, I guess, as pioneers. I spent all my summers and all my springs in that, you might say. All the winter we were feeding cattle and stuff. BEN: Okay. ROB: Actually, we were riding our horse back and forth. And I was only about fifth grade- I got my grandfather's Model T running and I started driving that to the farm! BEN: So you had a car from early on? ROB: Model T Ford. BEN: Okay. 2 |
