That's when we went back to Nancy. They reliev d u and and then we got replacements. BEC: So you got your numbers back up to where you were? ROY: Yes. We never did get quite up to where we were but pretty near. BEC: So you stayed in Nancy? h r nt ba k ROY: We were in Nancy about a month. We took training again, and then we went up on the front line again. BEC: Where did you go? Did you go back to the Strasbourg area again? ROY: No, we went up on the German border up at a little place called Reipertswiller, France. We were there two or three weeks and about all we did was go on patrol. I've never been on so many patrols in my life. Then, on the 15th of March, every infantry division in France went on the offensive. In other words, we'd been on defensive most of the time after the Battle of the Bulge. That's when we all went on the offensive. We really had some tough going there. Lot's of mines. Mines were bad. We go to these reunions and we see a guy with one leg and we know where he was, most of them was a mine, you know. After about the 17th of March, we got on some tanks. We rode on tanks for about four or five days. Then we were into Germany, which is what we were supposed to do. We got to a place called Wurzburg, Germany, a pretty big city about the size of Salt Lake, on the Main River. 18 |
