Show Glenn Parkin 17 ptember 200 ola down in Trinidad, Port of Spain in 194 3. It's a little bit of humor but that the way he was and I know that's the way I would want it. This is the photo that came out of New York, and this is their write-up which is very, very good. This is when they came over. Then, of course, anybody that can digest this--I had to put the map in small in order to get it in book size. I still have the big map. This is kind-of an interesting article here that gives the information for the people that picked us up or that found us, and what not. And then a friend of mine told me that he ran across this on the website. JOEL: Yes, there are a lot ofwebsites out there on World War II, and a lot on the army divisions, a little bit on the Marine Corps. The ones I found on this server called Yahoo only had the Marine Raiders, it doesn't talk about the other marines. GLENN: Oh, is that right? JOEL: Yes. It has links. The most interesting thing about doing this is that most of great interviews were with the members of the 442nd Regiment Combat Team. GLENN: Well, you can get a lot of them. JOEL: A lot of them live here. GLENN: The guys that I went to school with, oh we lost so many of them, so many men. Yah, it was an education. But the destroyer Hoe!, we had the screen Commodore aboard ship. Of course the screen Commodore was our old skipper which knew all the crew, and we knew him pretty well, you know. There was kind of a relaxed type with them. Not a bit like spit-and-polish on those bigger ships. You take the destroyer Hoe!, and I want to say what I'm gonna say to honor the men that were aboard the ship, because they deserve it. 22 |
