Show leon Parkin 17 ept m r 2005 F bruary. They went down and they bombed and they shelled the Mar hall ilb rt Islands and Wojie Island. JOEL: This was the Battle of the Coral Sea? GLENN: No, no. That was a little later. We went down-the Salt Lake City was shelling the Island of Wojie in the Marshall Islands-and then, after that, we wanted to show the Japanese that they did not sink the Pacific Fleet at Pearl Harbor. They didn't do that. They just destroyed a lot of old out-dated battleships is what they did. We went out and bombed Marcus Island, which is approximately nine hundred miles from Japan. Let me show you this map right here. I hope I haven't forgotten it. This map will give you some kind of an indication where in the heck we're at. Here we are. Now, ifyou'lllook at it real close, there's Wake Island right there and we're in green. The markings are in green. Here's the glossary right here that tells you "peace time" and "war time." This green, about halfway, about right in here, it turns to red, and that's where the Northampton with the carrier Enterprise was at when the war started, and we go back into Pearl. This is down at Marshall and Gilbert Islands. And then, of course, shortly after that we were way down in the southwest Pacific down here in the later part of March, and then we came back up to Pearl. We were only in Pearl for a day, and then we went out to sea, and the next morning we run into the carrier Hornet, and that's the one that had the planes on it that bombed Japan. I spent a lot of time in the navy, but a lot of guys have asked me where are all my tattoos. JOEL: I've seen a lot of guys with tattoos. 7 |
