Show Mrs. Helen Street Ranney was appointed Jubilee Secretary. At the Boards' Summer Conference held that same year at Pomona College, Claremont, California, it was voted that each Branch appoint a Jubilee Chairman to direct the campaign in her territory. After appointment these chairmen determined the goal and secured a Jubilee Secretary for each Auxiliary. Later, as far as possible, they personally visited every church, developing interest, organizing societies and presenting aims. The untiring devotion of these chairmen deserves far more than the mention of their names. They were ]\Irs. J. A. Lash, Southern California; Mrs. J. T. Richards, Northern California; Mrs. H. A. Roberts, Oregon; Mrs. R. S. Osgood and Mrs. W. J. Kennedy, Washington; Mrs. J. A. Sears and Mrs. J. Doolittle, Idaho, Mrs. E. P. Mills, Utah, and Mrs. G. A. Andrews, Arizona. Mrs. Ranney was commander-in-chief of all activities. She prepared a variety of attractive illustrated leaflets, informing and appealing. In company with the State Chairmen, or alone, she spent months in travel, covering the entire territory of the Board's constituency. At the time the campaign was launched, about $51,700.00 had been contributed. Of this amount, $23,750.00 had been given through the solicitation of Miss Mary Florence Denton, of the Doshisha Jo Gakko, Japan, during her furlough in 1917. To cancel the indebtedness to the American Board, $9,000 had been raised. The balance consisted mostly of large personal gifts from $1,000 to $6,000 each, donated for special buildings or Jubilee missionaries. Since June 1921, a constant stream of consecrated offerings has flowed into the treasury, varying in amounts from pennies to thousands of dollars. With hearts humble but abounding with joy may the following record of gifts be read. 51 ] |
