Show [2] efforts because cold weather came on, and because of the inability to do more than a certain number of things. One disadvantage of this plan is the seeming credit given to the family in whose home the meeting is held. We .have been so troubled by a woman from the country who Avanted help in her law suit. One of her great arguments is, "Was not my husband an old churchmember?", and her next oiie, "do I not entertain all the helpers Avhen they come to my village, and did not the Teacher-Mother spend a night in my home?" The day school for little girls was held last spring and continued in the fall. The r attendance was small, the regular pupils numbering five. Four of these, however, are girls from whom Ave expect much ten or twenty years from now, and it was worth while. They read their Bibles and classics and felt that they were pupils and looked forward to greater things. Miss Chang Avas their teacher again. As was reported last year, -Mrs.Ting was called in to take Mrs.Chang's place. She proved to be a most helpful worker, a woman who never Avorried others about her own burdens, large or small, and one who was willing to think and plan for anything that worried us. She did not know as many characters as Mrs.Chang but she had the shepherd instinct. Unfortunately, our Lintsing women even, have except in two or three cases, not read beyond one gospel, so she was able to help them. She was especially good at "exhorting" the women, whether they had been quarrelling, or had not been coming to church, or had some other fault, She took the Avork and us so into her heart that she. seemed an essential part of the order of things. . We do not understand yet why the Lord wanted her in heaven Avhen Ave need her so much here. When she was gone, Ave looked about to find some one to take her place, but there was no one. Seventy year old Mrs.Chou was free, knows a few. characters, and, was willing to try to do what she could, so for two months she has done the visiting, and feels herself responsible for meeting and looking after the Avomen on Sundays. The four women who went to P'ang Chuang to the two months' station class last fall seemed to make progress. Mrs.Chou's grand daughter was one, and Mrs.Chou says she has been so much more Avomanlv since she returned. She says, though, that she Avould rather die than unbind her feet and so Ave are hesitating either to help her further or to ask her to help us. Mrs. Chiao began her training with Dr.Tallmon Avho hopes some day to see her deA^elop. into a more or less capable medical assistant. Mrs. Liang Avent to her home in Tung Ch'ang Fu where Ave hope she is helping |
