Show THE CHURCH REVIEW.

Prayer meeting as usual Wednesday evening and Friday afternoon.
That was a very pleasant gathering last Thursday evening at Sister Kingsberry's. The party spent an hour or less there, and then proceeded to Sister Brim's, where they spent the rest of the evening. These people find a hearty welcome to our community. The new stove comes pretty near being as large as the church itself. It was secured with a view of using it in the new building.
The officers and teachers of the Sunday School will meet Sunday afternoon at 2:30 to arrange for children's concert.
The second Sunday morning of November will be reserved for communion, baptisms, and reception of members. Those who desire to bring church letters will please hand them to the pastor before the close of November if possible.
Two-hundred people are wanted to eat with the Waterloo ladies at the New England Dinner, Thursday from 5:30 to 8:30 p. m.
Some good singers from the city have agreed to assist in the program Thursday.

General News and Notes.

BAPTIST.
"Nine hundred and ninety-nine Baptists were baptized in Hungary last year. The number of Baptists in that country has doubled since 1891."
The college settlement chapter at Vassar College has resumed its meetings and outlined its work for the year. The college will be represented at the College Settlement Convention, to be held in Philadelphia this fall, by Miss Edith Holmes, of the class of '95.
Rev. Austin K. de Blois, Ph. D., the new president of Shurtleff College, is said to be the youngest college president in the United States. He was one of the first two to receive, in 1889, the degree of Ph. D. from Brown University.
It was demonstrated last winter that large congregations could be gathered in New York during business hours to hear the gospel preached and sung. For three months Association Hall, Niblo's Garden, or Cooper Union, was filled most of the time. Rev. A. C. Dixon, who conducted these meetings, has, therefore, decided to preach once a week on Thursdays, at 2:30 p. m., in the Broome street Tabernacle, near Broadway, of which Rev. C. H. Tyndall is pastor.
During the service at the Temple church, Philadelphia, October 21, Dr. Conwell stated that, owing to the absence of so many of the regular givers this summer, the Samaritan Hospital was $1,200 in dept; he would be glad if the people should pay the debt now. The collection was $1,290.31. At the evening service Mr. Conwell announced that the policy of establishing the city had proven successful; and that the management expected, next year, to establish in every ward of the city an academy of the Temple College, in each of which instruction would be offered in all the branches taught in the college, excepting those of the full college course.

"If you let the devil go home to dinner with you, you will have to take him for a regular boarder."

"The only thing a Christian can do for an enemy that a worldling cannot do, is to love him."

"One symptom of backsliding is a lack of thankfulness."

Chas. There is another change which many people could make to their everlasting advantage. They have an old fashioned heater, with an enormous capacity for consuming coal without giving out any heat; or an old cast iron box, called a cook stove, neither one of which ought to be tolerated in a modern house. Sell them to the junk dealer and come to us for a Range or Base Burner from which you will derive thrice the comfort for one-half the coal expense.
