Show along the island and connect inn; into State Highways, canal from l/ eber River and the necessary spillways and underpasses has been estimated at 1 million dollars. From Antelope Island to Fremont Island, the distance is 6.4 miles in a straight line, average depth of salt water 12.7 feet, average fill for dike 25 feet, and contains 13.5 million yards. It is estimated that swinging the line of dike in an arc to the east, that shallower water will be encountered of 5 foot average depth, distance 8 miles, fill 17 feet, contains 7 » 8 million yards. From Fremont Island to Promontory Point the distance is 2.9 miles, average depth of salt water 13.3 feet, average fill for dikes 25.5 feet and contains 6* 2 million yards. The above computations being for a dike having 15s1 side- slopes with top elevation at 4211. Upon this basis the dikes for the Antelope Bay project contain 4.5 million yards, and for the larger project extending to Promontory about 15 million, to 20 million yards. Additional information and data are required before an estimate of cost can be made for the larger project, and for the determination of its volume. In conclusion, we have the reservoir site or sites to hold the water, we have immense quantities of fresh water passing through them and wasting, we have had it demonstrated that fills can be maintained and that a type of dike has been developed which will save high maintenance costs, that with the selection of proper sized units the water will freshen and become an invaluable asset to this state. - 20 - |
