The meeting was called to order by Norm Burton, President at 7:00 P.M. at the Association office, 1376 Kingston Dr., Ogden, Utah. PRESENT Thirteen members of the Board were present: Norm Burton, Bob Bybee, Victor Gerdin, Douglas Harmon, Stewart Marsh, Lynn M. Nichol, Gene Palmer, Pepi Stiegler, Gary Summers, Duane Vigos, Jerry Warren, Francis Wikstrom, Thomas Wood. Also present were: John Diefenderfer-Ski School Directors Committee, Sal Raio-Team Coach, Joanne Burton-Executive Secretary. ABSENT Four members of the Board were absent and excused: Thomas Kronthaler, Robin Locke, Kristi Cooper, Julie Murphy. Also absent, Tom Amberson-Nordic Representative. M.S.C. Bybee - Nichol To Approve minutes as written and mailed. OLD BUSINESS Presidents Report: PSIA Proposed changes in voting procedures in PSIA Board Meetln~. At present time divisions voting strength is 1 vote for every 2 0 certified members. Our division at present gets 3 votes, Eastern has 8 votes, Central about 5, PNSIA 6, NIPSIA-NRMSIA-ASIA each have 1. A request from Central for the vote to be by dollar amount of dues and to include Registered members. Another suggestion was for every Board member to have 1 vote. The third alternative, to have the weighted vote that is presently being use. President Burton asked the board for direction on how the Board would like him'to vote at the PSIA Board meeting in June at Boulder. After some discussion it was decided that Norm should vote for the one vote per Board member. Great Instructors race. lhe name and logo for Great Instructors Race is owned & copyrighted by Ski Racing and Rossignal. Norm went over the proposal for the 1982 Great Instructors Race and asked the boards opinion on how he should vote at the June Board Meeting. H.S.C. Vigos - Wikstrom To decline the proposal for having a Rossignal Great Instructors Ski Race.' M.S.C. Palmer - Marsh For Norm to make a recommendation by ISlA to form our own PSIA Instructors race, Nationally and Divisionally, using Industry and Area support as sponsors. Star Test. Michelob Light has signed the contract. They are just finishing a vidio film that will be available to areas that do Star Test. There will be Star Tips in Skiing magazine next year. Sixty· areas Nationallv will do Star Test, seven in our division. There will be a new Star Test pin this year. Possibility of having Star Test for Children, sponsored by a Soft Drink company. There i5 also a Nordic program being written up. Interski January 15 to 22, 1983 at Sexton in the Dolomites will be the next Interski. Ea.ch division will send a delegate with expenses paid by the division. Norm suggested in our budgeting session we set aside an amount for someone to go. Norm also stated there might be a Nordic team sent this year. It was the suggestion of the Board that the format of Interski be reviewed to see if there would be Nordic demonstrations from each country. if not there wouldn't be any information to bring back and therefore no reason fer en entire team t~ go, only a representative. Administrative Vice Presidents Report: Fran Wikstrom submitted the Census report and the Election report. He noted that the reason for the notice of Special Meeting on the name change was due to the fact that changes in the Articles of Incorporation could not be made with a mailed vote, even though we would have more response, it had to be done at a Special Meeting. That meeting will be held July 6, 1981 at the office. Proxeys will be sent in by those not attending. Twenty five people are needed for a quorum. Budget report was also submitted and discussed. Certification Report: Doug submitted his report and gave his ideas and thoughts on the program so far and for the future. Educational Report: Jerry Warren submitted his report and thanked everyone for helping to make the educational program, college and clinics such a success. Clinic Report: Nick did not submit a written report but reported that the clinics all went very well and Sal Raio did most of the work by co-ordinating team members and clinics. Sal gave a progress report and stated he was glad to see more Ski Schools becomming interested in having clinics and educating their people. He also stated the Ski Team was being used more as Examiners and Back-up Examiners. Sal then gave out a paper on the purpose and objectives of the team. -3- Communication Report: Stewart Harsh passed out his written report and explained the proposed deadlines for the coming year. Norm complimented Stew and Barb on the newsletter and told the Board of the many compliments we have received from our members and other divisions. Awards: Kristi was unable to make the Board meeting to give her final report. Norm gave Nick the Lifetime Member Plaque for wayne Nichol as he was not at Spring Clinic to recieve it. He also gave him the Honorary Member Plaque for Chick Morton. Kristi suggested we not let the smaller areas lose their identy. It was suggested that individual Board members be appointed as a liaison to some of the ski schools not represented by the Board to keep them up to date on what is going on. Planning: Duane Vigos submitted his written report and suggested there be some discussion on his ideas for clinic credit. After a long discussion it was suggested wa enforce the clinic credit requirement as already written in By-Laws and let the members know in the fall that it will be enforced. The subject was tabled for more discussion at~ fall Board meeting. Ski School Directors: John Diefenderfer recapped some of the things that happened this year. The Instructor Exchange did not really get off the ground this year, primarily because of the bad snow year. He would like to give it another try this year. The wage and benefit information has not all come back from the directors, so he will get that out as soon as he has more infonnation. He also reported on the seminar held at Spring Clinic and will get a report out on that to the Directors. Nordic Reportz No report - No representation. Tom Kronthaler letter: Since Tom was unable to attend he sent a letter giving his feeling on the activities of the division. This letter is attached for reference. Executive Secretary: Joanne Burton reported we have run out of Blue Pins and none had been re-ordered because of the name change. She is about 20 short to send the new Associate members and wanted the boards recommendation as to what to do for those members. It was decided to send these members a Blue Patch and a PSIA shield with a letter of explanation and tell them in the fall they will recieve a new PSIA pin. -4- NEW BUSINESS Election of President: M.S.C. Warren - Palmer To nominate Norm Burton President for another year. Nomination closed by Fran Wikstrom. Spring Clinic Date & Site: Norm told the Board that NIPSIA has put in a bid for the PSIA convention in the spring of 1983 and would like to have ISlA join them the spring of 1982 to help them get a feel for holding a clinic. This could be in palce of our Spring Clinic. Snowbird has also indicated they would like the clinic for Spring of 1982. M.S.C. Bybee - Nichol To postpone discussion for Spring Clinic date & site until Fall Board Meeting. Life Member Consideration: Robin Locke wanted to 9ubmit the name of Stein Eriksen for Life Member. Subject was tabled until Fall Meeting with the suggestion that board members think of any other names they wish submitted. Sun Valley ISAA meeting: Norm told the board that he had been asked to speak at the ISAA meeting in June at Sun Valley on what ISlA and PSIA is doing. Norm asked the Boards approval to pay his expenses for the 2 or 3 days during the meeting if the ISAA does not pay them. M.S.C. Palmer - Nichol To pay for Norms room in Sun Valley at the ISAA meeting if ISAA doesn t pay them. French Instructor: Norm stated we have a letter from a French Instructor requesting a job or an instructor exchange. If anyone is interested or knows of a ski school interested, the letter is in the office. Bob r~rker request: Norm told the board of a request from Bob Parker to be re-instated to ISlA and gave the circumstances of his dropping out. There was discussion by the board. M.S.C. Bybee - Summers To reinstate Bob Parker to active status with payment of back dues. Abstaining - Jerry Warren, Stewart Marsh, Tom Wood, Nick Nichol. Norm brought up the subject of the Educational Committee on the PSIA level versus the Certification Committee, asking which committee is most productive for the dollar spent. After much discussion from the people attending the PSIA meetings at Sun Valley in January, it was decided that both committees are productive and go hand in hand with each other and neither should have budget cuts. The meetings in Sun Valley were the best we have had yet, but the -5- Certification budget should not include travel expenses for Ray Allard to attend Divisional exams because nothing would be gained by it. Date for Fall Board Meeting: The board agreed on the dates for fall Board meeting as Saturday and Sunday, August 22 & 23, starting at 11:00 A.M. on the 22nd. Vic Gardin asked if any thought had been put into a higher level of certification either division wise or by PSIA. He was told that there had been some thought and research on a Master Certification plan but it is still in a planning stage. Also in connection with the Coaches Association, a full Certified Instructor can apply for Stage I, II & III certification with the Coaches. Norm suggested until there was such a level as Master, anyone interested in furthering their education should attend as many educational functions as they can to help attain that level when time comes. Doug brought up the subject of NRMSIA members joining our division in order to attend our clinics and Certification program. He stated that there is now a question as to wether NaMSIA will accept the certification of their members. Joanne will find out more at the Executive Secretary's meetings in June at Boulder. M.S.C. INTIRMOUNT AIN SKI INSTRUCTORS ASSOCIATION CERTIFICA'rION REPORT 1980- L981 Certification underwent many changes in the Inermountain Division during the past year. Much of the change was due in a large part to the effort nationally to unify how certification is administered in each division. Before reporting on the format changes and the pro's and con's of the new exam, I'll run through the exams as they took place during the 1980-81 season. There were three exams: 1. Snow Basin - March 20-22 18 Associate Pass 15 = 83, lQ Full Pass 7. 70' Income $2,800 - 28 @ $100 Expenses 2,310.75 Profit ~.25 2. Snowbird - April 3-5 51 Associate Pass 47 = 92% 24 Full Pass 17 =71% Income $7,500 - 15 Q $15 Expenses 5,391.83 Profit $2,10B.17 Total % pass Associate B6% Total .. pass Full 72% Total .. pass Overall 82% Total Income $ 13,100.00 Total Expenses 10,708.50 Total Profit $ 2,391.50 The first exam at Snow Basin was an eye-opener 1 It let us for the first time see the three-day exam clinic format at work. Many questions arose out of this first encounter. Questions involving the examiners' participation seemed to be our number one concern. ISlA Certification Report Page 2 To what degree does the examiner become involved in the group discussion and how do we Jet the candidates to "take the ball and run with it?" Getting the candidates to step out and work with their peers was an approach none of us were used to. In the process of working out these problems, we are learning and ~aking the improvements needed. In the new format, other significant changes were made. One change was the elimination of the pre-course prior to the exam. By doing away with the pre-course, there will now be nora demand put on the educational clinics. Another significant change was a meeting of the examiners held one day prior to the exam. This added a much-needed continuity to the format. One of the main purposes for divisional existence is the certification of professional ski teachers. However, in the future I feel education by the division will play a greater role in the process of cert~ficat~on. Certification thus becomes a result of the educational process. We are seeing good results from the exams and congratulate those individuals who passed this year. We especially congratulate those people in the different ski schools who helped prepare individuals for exams. A special thanks goes to Sal Raio and the ski team for a tremendous job divisionally of both clinicing and examining. The general feeling about the new certification format was one of progress. Certification is by no means coming to any kind of final development, but rather a whole new horizon of development awaits us in the profession. I hope we can all be flexible enough to accept these changes. A very, very special thanks to the Certification Education Committee for their support. Thanks goes to Norm Burton, Jerry Warren, Gene Palmer, Pepi Stiegler, P.J. Jones, and possibly most importantly, to Joanne Burton, our Executive Secretary. The best to us next year. INTERMOUNTAIN SKI INSTRUCTORS ASSOCIATION Oear Board Members, This past season has been very successful in that our Educational events all took place as scheduled and met with very good response. The Educational Committee worked closely with Doug Harmon and the Certification program, and for our first year with this fonnat, met with good success and additional direction for next year. The Educational College at Snowbird, the night clinics, Examiners College at Park West, and Spring Clinic at Targhee were all well organized, very educational, and a lot of fun. I commend our ISlA Officers and Board Members, but especially Joanne and Norm Burton for their organizational qualities. These people really care about our association. For any clinic to be successful, the staff must be very well prepared. The ISIA Ski Team - Ole Olsen, Dan Meldrum. Tom Kronthaler, Victor Gerdin, Jo Garuccio, Stew Marsh, Dave McCormick, John Guay and their coach, Sal Raio did their homework. This is the highest quality divisional team I have ever worked with. Congratulation you guys and gal, for a job well done. It has been stated by some that they do not attend ISlA functions to learn something, but only to see old friends and make new ones. We hope those people will continue to attend and be satisfied because we do value their friendship. The biggest job the Educational Committee has is to provide a level of professionalism that comes only from continued learning. I get my freatest joy when I'm learning and I learn the most when I'm hav ng fun. This will again be our goal for next year. How do you feel ski methodology, technique, style, and how we learn relate to each other2 How do they relate to: Our real job as Ski Professionals, marketing and the future of ISlA and PSIA1 There are important pOints for all of us. I hope our Educational format for next year will be informative, fun and in the best interest for our future. Sincerely, ~~en Educational Vice President May 15. 19111 COMMUNICATIONS REPORT Tne 1980-1981 is"ues of tne "Instructors Edge" were stimulating and informative. Re~tivelY submitted, A{MA~I/ Stew Marsh Communication Vice Preaident L S. LA. May 15, 1981 TO: I.S.I.A. Board of Directors RE: Proposal for change in yearly clinic require",ents. As we have discussed in the past, I feel very strongly about the need to change the mandatory spring clinic requirements. Due to the time of the clinic and the financial burden so~etimes placed upon the instructors to travel to a designated area. Also, the format shculd be changed, if the clinic is going to be required, to make it an educational ex~erience not just a social event. These are some of the reasons that I feel we need to make a change in our overall approach to our educational clinic format. Below I hall" listed some ideas that r feel have some value. hope we have time at the spring board meeting to discuss the subject in detail and get some feed back from all the board members. 1. Mall.e an amount of hours required for each instructor per year to attend I.S.I.A. educational functions, such as 8 hours. These hours could be stretched out throughout the season, allowing for attendance at any of the following clinics. A. Fall Educational Clinic (General Membership). B. Technical College. C. I. S. LA. Night Clinics (Certificat ion Oriented). D. Spring Clinic (if design3ted "rod run only as an educational Function). E. National Acade@y ~ttenddnce. Another suggestion would be to allow individual Ski Schools to run sanctioned clinics, put an at:: their dL"ea with the Llvolve;nent of the LS.I.A. Demo Team and Certification BC3CO, to ElllEill these clinic requirea.ents. 'r!"l.at \-Iay the area- could schedul~ these functions at their convenience in conjunction with the (low of busine::;s to better fit the n~p.ds of thp area. Park City Ski Corp., Box 39, Park City, Utah 84060 • Phone (8UI) 6 .. 9-8111 I.S.I.A. Board of Directors Dage 2 This subject has been tossed around for q~ite some time and I feel that it needs our immediate attention, so that for the oncoming season we can have something set up to better fill the memberships needs as well as fit into the schedule a ski school has to set. Keeping in mind, that the main reason that we are all here is the businees of ski teaching. with an 8 hour requirement yearly, I think it could by fairly easily policed and would minimize the problem we have had with members that are not actively participating in ski teaching: both teaching and curr~nt techniques. roV: se Dear Boa.rci »ember s : 'larch II, I9A'I 335 Townl1ne Rd. Fran Wikstrom. Tom Wood. Stewart Marsh. Duane Vigos. Jerry Warren arrived at 1:20 and Gene Palmer arrived at 2:00. Also present were Sal Raio, team Coach; Tom Amberson, Nordic Representative; and Joanne Burton, Executive Secretary. ABSENT The following members all called saying they could not make it: Tom Kronthaler. Victor Gerdin, Gary Summers and Bob Bybee. Robin Locke could not make the Saturday meeting, will come Sunday. H.S.C. Wikstrom - Vigos To accept minutes as printed & mailed. ,,0 BUS INESS ~ - r~ESIDENTS REPORT: Norm asked for approval of the following officers for the coming year. Fran Wikstrom, Administrative Vice President; Doug Harmon, Certification Vice President; Jerry Warren, Education Vice President; Stewart Marsh as Ccmmunication Vice President. Also the following committee chairmen: Robin Locke as Awards Chairman, Nick Nichol as Clinic Chairman, and Tom Amberson as Nordic Director. M.S.C. Wood - Marsh To accept officers and Committee Chairmen. Norm had everyone put firm dates on their calendars. December 5 & 6, Ski Team tryouts at Snowbird. April 14-20, National Academy April 21-24 National Educational & Certification meetings. PSIA has requested our division hold their Spring Clinic April 23-24-25 at Snowbird so that PSIA can hold their Board Meeting at the same time. This will save travel time for the Team. Calendar was tabled until later in the meeting. The Board discussed an anonymous letter sent to the board. It was decided to put a short item in the Newsletter that anonymous letters would not be worthy of answering in newsletter. PSIA wORKMEETING ~ Norm reported our division went on record to not be involved ~ with the Great Instructors Race. There was nothing else to -2- report on the race except that Rosignal would still have it, but only on the basis they give PSIA funds. We would have a choice of getting involved later if the race meets some of our criteria. Ilitalia Air Lines will fly the winning team to the International race. Ilitalia will also be the official PSIA carrier to Inter-Ski and will pay for 26 delegates (room-board & airfare). The 26 delegates would include the Alpine Team, maybe the Nordic Team and a few of the official delegates. PSIA would like a representative from each division in a Technical capacity to attend Inter-Ski. Norm stated that PSIA will definatly raise dues effective next July. The Executive Committee will meet in September to determine how much the raise will be, not to exceed $10.00. M. Wikstrom For Norm to oppose any dues increase for PSIA. Tabled until later in the meeting. Norm also reported on Star Test. All the Ski Schools in Intermountain that have applied for Star Test should get it. The Star Test Clinics will be held regionally instead of individually this year. Norm reported the new PSIA pin was approved. It is smaller than the old shield, about the size of the Academy pin. It will have a Silver background for Associate and Gold background for Full. Some of the promotional things that will be done this year in ~ PSIA are: December issue of Skiing will have a 24 page insert dealing with PSIA. Also some additional copies of the insert will be available to Ski Schools at no charge. There is also a Star Tip brochure. Norm reported on PSIA's recommendation that all the divisions think about changing their names to PSIA - _____ , as we have done. PSIA will be going to Sun Valley in 1983 for NIPSIA's presentation of a National Congress with the theme Inter-Ski. PSIA is urging all Ski Schools to join A.S.F. The fee is $100.00 for 49 or more members. For less than 49 members the fee is $25.00. Individual membership is also available at $25.00. This is our only Lobbying source in Washington. There will only be one large journal this year instead of three small ones. Norm also reported that divisions all now have one vote for PSIA Board. ISAA MEETING Norm reported on ISAA meeting he attended at Sun Valley and suggested the Division join as an Affiliate member. The fee is $75.00. -- -3- ··'liE CHANGE ( Fran reported he had filed the name change with the State • FINANCIAL REPORT Fran went over the financial report from last year, a copy is enclosed as part of these minutes. NEW BUSINESS COMMUNICATION: Stewart Marsh gave deadline dates for the Edge, to be written in the calendar. Al Davis had offered to do the newsletter on the computer and Stew was going to check on it. CLINICS: Nick gave his tentative schedule for clinics and is proposing having several two night consecutive clinics instead of the weekly ones we have had in the past. He is also proposing a November pre-season clinic to be held at Alta before the resorts open. M.S.C. Wikstrom - Wood To approve tentative clinic schedule per approval of areas- AWARDS: Robin will get with Kristy Cooper to see where she left off on awards, and he would know where to begin. NORDIC: Tom Amberson presented his program of Clinic and Exam schedules. It was suggested he hold clinics in our division rather than in NIPSIA bourldaries, unless an area wanted to hire them to come and give a clinic. The possibility of the Nordic people holding their Spring Clinic in conjunction with the Alpine was again brought up and Tom was going to look into it. M.S.C. Nichol - Harmon To accept the Nordic format. SKI SCHOOL DIRECTORS: John was unable to attend the meeting but submitted his budget proposal and the results of the wage & benefit poll taken earlier. He has suggested a questionaire be filled out by Ski School Directors following the exams, giving the certification committee infonnation as to how their people felt the exam went and any problems they feel need to be corrected, also favorable comments of what they liked, comments on examiners etc. These will help the committee fo find their weak and strong spots. Instructor exchange program was also discussed. Nich said the program worked well for them and would like to see it go ahead. M.S.C. Harmon - Palmer To approve John Diefenderfers program. CERTIFICATION: Doug went over his proposal, additions and changes to the 81-82 program. The dates were discussed along with the exam process. SUN VALLEY CLINIC: The date NIPSIA has set is a bad time for our people. We will check with them and see if their dates can be changed. A date -~- for our own clinic should be set if they can't change their dates. In the event their dates can't be changed we will encourage as many of our people to go to NIPSIA's clinic as we can. CALENDAR: Dates for all events were discussed. The dates decided were: Nov. 14 - Open clinic - Alta Nov. 18 Examiner Training Clinic - Alta Nov. 19 Ski School Directors Clinic - Alta Dec. 12 & 13 College - Snowbird Jan. 9 & 10 Registered training session - Snowbasin The fall membership meetings were set for Wed. Nov. 4th Salt Lake City and Nov. 5 at Idaho Falls. EDUCATION: Jerry has been checking on feed back from members on types of programs we are running, exams, clinics and college to see if their needs are being met. He feels we may need to go back to the first PSIA manual and the three most important things to keep in mind as a Ski Teacher. #1 Safety, 12 Fun, #3 Learning. He feels we may need to spend more time on Safety and class handling, making it known it is fun to take a lesson, and the learning would come along. LETTERS: Karrie Jensons letter was discussed, along with beauty vs function. Everyon~ felt that skiing could be functional and technical as well as beautiful and fun. The instructor should be versatile enough to teach a customer what he wants to learn and not what the instructor wants to teach him. Every student is an individual and you cannot apply the same ideas and techniques to all of them. NORDIC: Tom Amberson commented on the Nordic Spring Clinic with the National Team member, Wayne Hanson and the ideas he brought to the Nordic Members. SKI TEAM TRVOUTS: The dates are December 5 & 6, set a year ago at our Fall 1980 Board Meeting. It will be held at Snowbird. Sal passed out a sheet listing prerequisites and criteria for tryout, attached. It was decided that the newsletter would give the information about the tryouts and would state the applications must be obtained and signed from the Ski School Director. Jerry and Sal stated they would select 8 to 12 people for the team, according to how they stack up, and also designate alternate names of people to fill in when we lose team members as we have done in the past. They would be used in order of selection if that person is still qualified when the vacancy occured and that would be reviewed. They would not be used as a back up, but used only if we lost someone on the team. The first alternate could attend some of the training sessions, but not all of them. The selection Committee would be Sal Raio, Jerry Warren and Doug Harmon, with a back up selector if needed. CERTIFICATION PIN: Norm stated that the PSIA Board had recommended that the divisions accept the PSIA pin as their division pin. The Presidents and Executive Secretaries both reviewed the design. The Presidents decided the pin should be the size of the Academy -5- pin with no division designation for a cleaner uncluttered look and more unity. The Executive Secretaries went along with their decision. The Board then approved the pin and encouraged all divisions to go along with the new pin design and also follow the example of PSIA-I and change their division name as we have done. There was a lot of discussion on the design. Norm pointed out that from a marketing standpoint a unified pin 1s more acceptable to the public. so when they go from one place to another they can associate the pin with PSIA because they are all alike. Some of the Board felt that having Intermountain across the top would not detract from the National symbol and still give our division some identity. After more discussion pro and con it was; M.S.C. Wikstrom - Palmer To adopt the PSIA pin, but add Intermountain to the top. 6 for - 3 against Norm Burton and Tom Wood went on record as feeling this motion is a mistake. AWARDS: People who were eligible for Lifetime Members were dIscussed. It was decided that there were none to be named at this time. It was felt that Junior Bounous should receive a service award for the contributions he has made to skiing. ACCESSORIES: Nancy Krontbaler would like to handle this, maybe havIng T-shirts. hats etc. with our new name. It was discussed and decided to wait awhile before starting the accessories program again. PSIA has « number of accessories that members can get until we feel a need for it again. INSURANCE: Norm told the board he was going to Seattle to discuss a new Insurance program for Ski Schools that will be cheaper and better coverage than before. There will be more information sent to the Directors later. LETTERHEAD: New letterhead was discussed. It was decided to have some different designs made up and submitted for approval. BUDGET: Meeting was turned over to administrative V.P. Fran Wikstrom. Norm explained the new format of the budget in book form. M.S.C. Burton - Nichol To approve the Administrative portion of the budget. Fran turned the gavel over to Nick Nichol. M.S.C. Wikstrom - Palmer to raise the Executive Secretary Salary to $7.000.00 a year. Gavel was returned to Fran. M.S.C. Nichol - Marsh To accept the supporting services as amended M.S.C. Marsh - Nichol To approve the Alpine and Nordic Certification Budget as amended. H.S.C. Burton - Harmon To amend Nordic budget to $4.000.00 cost and $3.900.00 revenue. H.S.C. Nichol - Palmer To accept Education budget. H.S.C. Palmer - Marsh To approve Ski School Directors budget as amended. H.S.C. Wood - Nichol To approve Clinic budget. H.S.C. Marsh - Wood T approve Spring Clinic Budget H.S.C. Nichol - Vigos To approve Communication budget as is. M.S.C. Burton - Wood To approve Team Training budget. H.S.C. Marsh - Nichol To approve Awards budget H.S.C. Wood - Marsh To approve Interski Delegate budget. H.S.C. Palmer - Nichol To approve Fall membership meeting H.S.C. Burton - Warren To approve membership pin for members no - Tom wood H.S.C. Nichol - Palmer To approve travel for Executive Secretary H.S.C. Palmer - Vigos To approve Team tryout budget with approval to use back-ups as needed, paid from contingency fund. H.S.C. Nichol - Wood To approve member services budget as amended. H.S.C. Marsh - Burton To approve budget as a whole as amended. Gavel returned to Norm. There was some discussion on Fran's tabled motion on dues increase. H.S.C. Wikstrom - Vigos For Norm to oppose any dues increase for PSIA when he goes to the Executive meeting in September. H.S.C. Vigos - Nichol That our Board be furnished a copy of the PSIA budget. -7- ROSTER: Stew asked the Board of the feasibility of having a division directory sent to all the members listing name, address, phone and Ski School affi.liation. There was some discussion with the following points made: Members move quite often making addresses and phone numbers obsolete. PSlA sells the mailing list and the roster is a way for some companies to get a list of Intermountain members without going through PSlA. This isn't compatible to selling ISM's. Most members arennt that interested in a roster. It was decided to give the question further study and consideration as to cost etc. CLINICS: Duane brought up the tabled discussion from last meeting on Clinic Credit. There should be more clinics available for clinic credit. The Spring Clinic should be more structured and should be divided into two groups, those that want or need clinic credit, and those that just want to socialize. We need to set an hour figure on clinics and enforce it or not have a requirement at all. The clinic leaders need to take a roll or have some way of verifing that the members did attend the clinic. H.S.C. Marsh - Wikstrom That we have a requirement of 12 hours clinic credit every two years. Pepi Stiegler - No Gene Palmer - Abstain Credit for exams were discussed pro and con as to whether clinic credit should be received. No decision was made. ~.S.C. Wikstrom - Palmer If someone doesn't make 12 hours in two years, they are dropped and they would have to go to the Education College at a cost of $100.00 the following year to be re-instated. If they don't make up their clinic credit at that point they would have to re-certify. Clinics for credit were discussed and it was decided that we need plenty of clinics so members will be able to find one that will fit in their time & work schedule. Staff clinics will not be credit clinics because we are trying to encourage the use of the team and an interchange of ideas among the members from different ski schools. All clinics must be scheduled by November 1 to be a sanctioned clinic. Clinic credit cannot be accumulated for more than two years. M.S.C. Marsh - Wood To make Spring Clinic - Credit/Non Credit at a different cost for each. M. Stiegler That there be a fee determined for only those that want to race at the Spring Clinic. Motion died for lack of second. M.S.C. Marsh - Nichol to adjourn r. 5. !. ...... INTIRMOUNTAIN SKI INSTRUCTORS ASSOCIA •.
