Show 118 1905 Presidential proclamation adds land to Uintah National Forest. 1905 1905 1905 1905 1905 1905 1905 1905 1905 1905 1905 1905 1906 Presidential proclamation designates Theodore ( Duchesne), Myton ( The Bridge) and Randlett ( Leland) as townsites . Gilson Asphaltom Company organizes Uintah Road Company which secures permission to survey and locate line of railroad ( to Watson) and to construct toll roads ( to Ouray and to Jensen) and ferry. The Alhandra Stage Stop and Ferry is built ( 1906) just south of Jensen. It is in operation through 1919 until the bridge at Jensen makes it obsolete. The White River Station and bridge was replaced about 1909 by the Ignatio Stage Stop. It was operated until 1935 when the railroad and toll road ceased operation. Speculators establish townsite of Stockmore which is eventually abandoned. A. M. Murdock, Indian trader at Whiterocks, is permitted to set up post at what becomes Theodore ( Duchesne). Post office is established. Wasatch Development and Uintah Realty Companies organize to take advantage of land rush in the Basin. Townsite of Myton is laid out and building lots sold. The Indian Irrigation Office is maintained here until 1944. The stateline school is built at Linwood with its ridgepole on the state line of Utah and Wyoming. It Is moved to Dutch John in 1959. Bridge is built over North Fork of Duchesne River. Settlement which springs up is called Hanna in 1910 when the post office is established. Strawberry Valley Reclamation Project, first such project in the U. S., is approved. Kingsbury Congregational Church is dedicated in Vernal• Uintah Railroad Company builds headquarters in Vernal. Roosevelt is plotted by E. F. Harmston. The headquarters of Dry Gulch Irrigation Company is located there. Uintah Irrigation Project is created to build canals to Indian lands. Non- Indian ranchers and farmers, however, are most benefited. |
