Show 120 1907 Vernal Mill and Light Company is organized. Small power plant is built and lights are installed in Vernal in 1908. Plant sold in 1926 to Utah Power and Light Co. 1907 Telephones installed in Vernal in 1907. 1907 About this time the Mosby Stock Association is organized in Tridell area. 1907 First school on Indian Bench ( Alterra) is held in an Indian cabin. Later a tent is used and still later a brick building which was eventually ( 1933) converted into a high school. 1908 The steamboat " Comet" is launched by Green River Navigation Company at Linwood. It is determined to be impractical to operate steamboats on the river. 1908 Town of Packer is started but residents move - west to Neola in 1912. 1908 Utes return from South Dakota, use " Mau- be" ferry for its last runs. 1908 Uintah Chieftain newspaper published. 1908 Mvton Record newspaper published. 1908 Post office built at Taft, to serve homesteaders w\ io come to the area, in 1905. 1908 Post office established at Alexander ( Altonah). 1908 Post office established at Ioka, a townsite recommended by LDS church officials to homesteaders who had come to the area in 1906. The post office was discontinued in 1944. 1908 A post office is established at Utahn on old Salt Lake City route. The land- rush town is mostly abandoned in the 1930s. 1909 Dr. Earl Douglass establishes a quarry in what will become Dinosaur National Monument. 1909 A. M. Murdock established stage line from Colton ( Bonanza) to Theodore ( Duchesne). 1909 Oscar Swett homesteads ranch in Greendale area of Brown's Park. 1909 Townsite of Boneta is located and named by Peter B. Madsen, one of a group of homesteaders from San Pete County who filed on this area in 1906. The post |
