Show Ill 1866 Agent Kinney is replaced because of incompetence by Thomas Carter who clears, plows and irrigates 25 acres of land near present Tabiona. 1866 Some disgruntled Utes leave reservation and join Blackhawk on his raids of Mormon settlements, particularly in Sanpete and Sevier Counties. 1867 Blackhawk settles on Uintah Reservation agreeing to cease raids on Mormon settlements. Other of his lieutenants continue raiding until 1872. 1867 Ute leader Tabby- to- kwana leads a large Ute group to settle on the Uintah Reservation in the Stawberry Valley. Later the group moves near Whiterocks, then in 1881 back to Strawberry. 1868 Southern boundary of Wyoming was shifted, as result of political influence of William Carter, south from 42nd to 41st parallel. The strip of land which is now Daggett County was attached to Summit County, Utah. 1868 Pardon Dodds appointed agent of Uintah Reservation. Moves the agency on upper Duchesne to Rock Creek and - then to Whiterocks. 1868- 1869 John Wesley Powell leads scientific expedition from Colorado to Green River, Wyoming via Brown's Hole and then down the Green River to Duchesne. 1869 John Wesley Powell leads expedition down the Green River, then down the Colorado River. He renames Brown's Hole- Brown's Park. 1869 Jesse Ewing, who had prospected in the Wasatch Mountains as early as 1867, H. M. Hook, the first Mayor of Cheyenne, and others boated down the Green River to Red Canyon. Ewing establishes a cabin and assay office in the canyon that now bears his name. 1869 Ned Huddleston, also know as Isom Dart, begins career in Brown's Hole as cattle rustler and outlaw. 1869 Clarence King, heading the Fortieth Parallel Survey, supervises exploration of Uinta Mountains. S. F. Simons maps the area this summer and again in 1871. 1869 Kanosh led his group of Pahvant Utes, who had been farming at Corn Creek, onto the Uintah Reservation. 1870 F. V. Hayden, under auspices of Interior Department, leads expedition which explores parts of Green River and Uintas. Photographer William H. Jackson accompanies the party. |
