Show 62 DIXIE PROJECT, UTAH area. It is a delightful garden spot, with beautiful scenery, fertile soil and a most desirable climate. Those who live in Dixie claim that this is where the " summer sun spends the winter." With the benefits that will be derived from the Dixie project, this area will become one of the most desirable and sought after places in the Nation. A wonderful opportunity is before us, and those acquainted with the area can realize this fully. I appear before you this morning to request your support and authorization for the Dixie project. Mr. SOGERS. Does that conclude your testimony ? Mr. BURTON. Mr. Chairman, I would like to say that all of us in Utah are very grateful to the chairman of this subcommittee, as well as the chairman of the full committee, for the cooperation we have received in the matter of hearings on the Dixie project I would like also to tell the chairman that we have a delegation from Utah here that will be recognized by you later. The Dixie project is nonpolitical and in Utah it is noncontroversial. I know of no one out there who does not support it. As a freshman Congressman, and because this project was very dear to my heart, it was the first bill I introduced in Congress. Once again, Mr. Chairman, and the chairman of the full committee, I want to express my personal appreciation for the help you have given us in this project. Mr. ROGERS. Thank you, Mr. Burton. Mr. ASPINALL. Mr. Chairman ? Mr. ROGERS. Mr. Aspinall. Mr. ASPINALL. I would like to ask my colleague a couple of questions. With all of this noncontroversialness and so forth, in connection with this bill as well as nonpartisanship, is there what can be truthfully be said a bill that is nonsubsidizational, also ? Mr. BURTON. Not completely. Mr. ASPINALL. My colleague is so right. The next question I would ask is this: As I understand my colleague's position, he is desirous of this bill conforming to the policy we set forth in our allocation bill, 9032, which is presently before the House of Representatives, and also that it conform with the 50- year payout ? Mr. BURTON. The chairman is correct. Mr. ASPINALL. That is all I have to say. I knew my colleague's answers before I asked these questions but I wanted to have them on the record before we begin consideration of this. Mr. BURTON. Mr. Chairman, may we go off the record ? Mr. ROGERS. Yes. Off the record. ( Discussion off the record.) Mr. ROGERS. Back on the record. Is that all you have, Mr. Burton ? Mr. BURTON. Yes. Thank you. Mr. ROGERS. IS that all you have, Mr. Aspinall ? Mr. ASPINALL. Yes. Mr. ROGERS. Our first witness scheduled this morning is the Honorable Frank E. Moss, a U. S. Senator from the State of Utah. Senator Moss, it is nice to have you before the subcommittee. |
