Show Flying - 126 John Henry works on, feeling the cool air and the warmth of the sun. Thompson is standing in front of the mirror in the latrine, combing his hair. "Just hurt him once right away," he says. "Kick him in the knee or something like that." He turns around, putting the comb in his back pocket. "Just walk up to him and kick him in the knee and he sure won't feel like fighting no more. I use to do that lots of times in street fights." John Henry kicks the wall, just to get the feel of it. Then he hits his knee experimentally against the edge of one of the sinks. Jesus that hurts. And I didn't do it very hard. "Go for the face." says O'Connell. "Always go for the face. Break his nose for him and it'll be all over. Just one good punch." "Yeah," says Thompson, "but that ain't always easy to do. What's he gonna be doing while you're trying to hit him in the face? He ain't just gonna stand there and wait." "If you try to kick him in the knee he can grab your foot and throw you," says O'Connell. "Kick me," he says to John Henry. John Henry takes a slow kick at him and O'Connell grabs his foot, dumps him on the cement floor and starts twisting it. |
