Show Can t we ctet more water? The best way to increase our water supply is to practice water conservation. Water conservation means using water wisely. Many of our reservoirs were built to hold water until it is needed for irrigation. This effort changed Utah from a surface- water- poor state to a state rich in reservoirs. Everyone can practice water conservation. The first step in conservation is to become aware of how precious water is and how necessary it is in every part of our lives. Remember, every drop counts. lined canals prevent leaf^ aae showers reaUy do cost Since irrigation uses most of Utah's available water, wise management can result in large water savings. A leaky irrigation canal can waste far more water than a dripping faucet. There are also many ways to save water around our homes and yards: • Use your automatic dishwasher only for full loads. • Use a broom to clean driveways and sidewalks. • Fix leaky faucets and pipes. • Water lawns only when they really need it, and try to water during the early morning hours. • Install water- saving shower heads or flow restrictors. 18 |
