Show What about UNIVERSITY OF UTAH LIBRARIES 3 1114 01558 3729 Did you know that a cloud is made up of millions of tiny water droplets? These water droplets form when moist air cools. Specks of dirt, dust, or salt crystals are needed for these water droplets to form. These tiny specks are called condensation nuclei. They help water vapor in the sky condense into liquid water. For a cloud to produce snow, its water droplets must freeze. Specks of dirt in the air can help water droplets freeze. We also can add specks of a chemical called silver iodide to clouds to help the water droplets freeze. This is called cloud seeding. In the winter of 1988- 89,19 counties in Utah participated in a cloud seeding program. Silver iodide was added to storm clouds to increase the chances of more snow falling. Well students, I hope you have enjoyed learning about water. Water is a very precious resource, don't you agree? Let's all learn to use it wisely. |
