Show 35 Snow ranger calls in open areas via radio either through P- Ridge snow ranger or guard station. Team checks out Vail Slide on the way back to Wildcat Lift. Team 4 consists of two ski patrolmen. Proceed to Sugarloaf area after firing has ceased from the two gun crews. This team hand- charges and will test- ski as needed. Team leader makes recommendations on open or closed areas. ( Figure 27) 1000 - Team 1 or Team 3 then proceeds to Yellow Trail and Glory Hole to hand- charge and open these areas. Utilize radio to call in when these areas are open for skiing. ( Figure 20) ( This is meant to be only a suggested guideline and should not be used as a canned recipe for a l l storm conditions. It can certainly be improved upon in given situations.) C. Condition C Road closed; avalanche danger from road slides Superior through East Hellgate. 0700 or first light - Team 1, consisting of one snow ranger and three or four ski patrolmen, proceeds from garage to canyon gun mount with four- wheel drive or snow cat. If State Road Crews are available they should stand by at Snowbird and hold any traffic there. If they are not available, Team 1 should proceed to Snowbird and drop one man there with a radio to block traffic. Team 1 then proceeds to fire on road targets as needed: Superior 1, 2, 3, 4 ( Figure 1) Little Superior - West and East ( Figure 2) West Hellgate ( Figure 2) Conrad's Gully - Left and Right ( Figure 3) These targets can also be fired blind if necessary. 0730 - Team 2, consisting of one snow ranger and one ski patrolman, proceeds to guard station gun and shoots normal targets on the mountain. When all of Team 1 are in position, Team 2 fires on East Hellgate as needed. East Hellgate - Left and Right ( Figure 2) These can also be fired blind if necessary. 0800 - Open road to plows then the public. |
