Show 19 13. Bear Paw Through Westward Ho ( Figure 17) Moderate intermittent hazard. The most dangerous slope, the Waterfall, lies directly underneath the Wildcat Lift. Under normal conditions, this slope can be test- skied; but in particularly hazardous conditions, hand- charging is recommend ed. 14. Rock Gully ( Figure 17) Moderate intermittent hazard. In high hazard periods, Rock Gully should be test- skied or blasted. In the lower part of the gully, the slope angle becomes considerably steeper. This slope should be carefully checked since the normal traverse from the Wildcat Bowl- Wildcat Face area goes directly below this steep section and there is a possibility of a skier undercutting the slope above. 15. Wildcat Face ( Wildcat Steilhang) ( Figure 17) Low intermittent hazard. This slope can be test- skied except in very extreme conditions when hand- charging is then recommended. The lower part of Wildcat Face is known as Wildcat Steilhang. Although this section is very steep, it is quite short and can generally be test- skied without danger. In extreme conditions, hand- charging is preferred. 16. Peruvian Bowl ( Punch Bowl) ( Figure 17) Moderate intermittent hazard. This area is the basin immediately north of the Peruvian Ridge gun tower. In recent years, this slope has had heavy skier traffic, which aids greatly in its stabilization. Following a large storm when severe instability is known to exist, it is recommended that a series of hand charges be placed on the slope. |
