Show C. Lift- Served Areas 1 « Greeley Hill- North Rustler ( Figure 7) This picture shows the area of Greeley Hill, High Nowhere, and the upper part of North Rustler. These slide paths are normally controlled by artillery fire, generally from the pack howitzer. These slopes, having a northern orientation, are prime places for the formation of depth hoar, and it is not at all unusual to have depth hoar formation here when it forms nowhere else on the mountain. This area has many small " sleeper" slopes in it and care should be emphasized in doing control work that all the main pockets are hit. In conditions of high instability, it may be advisable to follow up the artillery control with the placement of hand charges, or test skiing by a well-trained team. These runs are accessible via the High Traverse from the top of the Germania Lift. Of necessity, the runs in this area including Eagle's Nest, High Rustler, Upper Stonecrusher, Upper Jitterbug, and the Greeley Bowl- East Greeley complex must be opened as a unit. It is, therefore, necessary that all the slopes involved are safe before the High Traverse can be opened. |
