Show Rosebud Reservation, South Dakota. The Act of May 30, 1910 (36 Stat. L. 448) provides: "That the Secretary of the Interior be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed x x x x to sell and dispose of all that portion of the Rosebud Indian Reservation, in the state of South Dakota, lying and being within the counties of Mellette and Washab-augh; that the lands shall be disposed of under the genaral provisions of the homestead and tov/nsite laws of the United States, and shall be opened to settlement and entry by proclamation of the President"; that the " proceeds arising from the sale and disposition of the lands aforesaid x x x shall be deposited in the Treasury of the United States to the credit of the Indians belonging and having tribal rights on the said reservation x x x x which shall draw interest ( at threa per cent per annum x x x x; ; subject to the appropriation of Congress for their education, support,, and civilization." ^ Pursuant thereto, tha President's proclamation of June 29, 1911 ( Stat. L ) was issued. The greater part of the land within the ceded portion of this reservation has been sold and the proceeds deposited in the Treasury of the United States to the credit of the Indians as "Rosebud Reservation 3 Per Cant Fund." Apparently however, no.grazing permits are now in effect on any part of this land, and-it. is not known whether any "such permits have ever been issued. -18- .0 0" |
