Show settlement and entry, under date cf November 27, 1911, the First Assistant Secretary of the Interior addressed the Commissioner of Indian Affairs as follows: The department agrees with you that as to the first class "the Indians liave no further concern and.-'- that after the cession such lands are properly under-'--' the jurisdiction of the General Land Office. '. The department also agrees v/ith you that the Indians are--rightfully entitle^, to the use and benefit of the lands coming within the second class until they shall have boen finally disposed of, with the condition hosier er, _ that-the 'use thereof shall in nowise interfere v/ith the speedy sale or other disposition provided by low. There should be no difficulty in prooeriy handling such cases through joint cooperation between your office and the General Land Office. There can be no objection to permitting the use 'of such lands by the Indians or for gracing purposes for the benefit of the Indians, provided o_iways that such ess as'to not Interfere with the settlement is so controlled or sale .: |
