Show Shoshone Reservation, Wyoming The Act of March 3, 1905, (33 Stat. L. 1015) amends and ratifies the agreement of April 21, 1904, with the Shoshone and Arapaho Indians. Article I provides: "That the said Indians x x x x, for ths consideration hereinafter named, d_o hereby • cede, grant, and relinquish to the United States, all right, title , and interest which they may have to all tha lands embraced within the said reservation, except the lands within and bounded by the following described lines: (Than follows a description of the land reserved, constituting the diminshed reservation.) Article II recites: "In consideration of the lands ceded, granted, relinquished, and conveyed by Article I of this agree-. ment, the United States stipulates and agrees to dispose of the same as hereinafter provided under the provisions of the homestead, townsite, coal, and mineral land laws, or by sale for cash as hereinafter provided." Article V provides "that fifty thousand dollars of the procaeds derived f r cm the sale of the ceded lands shall be expended in the purchase of livestock for issue to the In-- dians;" ' Article VI, "that fifty thousand dollars shall be expended for school.purposes"; Article VII, "that all the moneys received in payment for the lands hereby ceded and relinquished j___p- not set asicis as required for the various specific purposes and uses herein provided, g*s^__- shall constitute a general welfare and improvement fund, the interest on which at- four per centum per annum shall be annually expended x x x x for the benefit of said Indiana." -19-- |
