Show -14- Bob Runyon was recently elected to be Councilor-at-Large on the American Library Association's Administrative Council by the Utah Library Association. He was also recently appointed to serve on the ALA Reference Statistics Committee. Earlier, he co-authored with Kenneth Luker, Library Systems Analyst, an article on "Computers: Equipment and Services" which appeared in the April, 1976 edition of Library Trends. Bob Runyon spent several days in August visiting with British librarians on a recent vacation trip to England and Scotland. At the University of Sheffield, School of Librarians hip and Information Science, he gave an invited lecture on the Marriott Library's recently completed management study program. Other libraries on his itinerary were the British Library, in London and Boston Spa, as well as the University of Edinburgh Library. ******** An article written by a University of Utah librarian has been included in an anthology of the best writing on library topics during 1975. Thomas M. Schmid, acquisitions librarian at the University's Marriott Library, was among 10 writers listed in the publication's section on communications and education. Mr. Schmid's article was entitled "Libraries and Publishers: The Uneasy Partnership." The anthology, "Library Lit. 6 - The Best of 1975," is published by the Scarecrow Press, Metuchen, N.J. Mr. Schmid also has had a tongue-in-cheek analysis of the "delicate relationship" between bookseller and buyer published in the "Antiquarian Book Monthly Review" of Oxford, England. ******** On November 5, 1976, the College and University Section of the Utah Library Association, under the leadership of Paul Mogren . sponsored a program on "Emphasizing the Undergraduate: Focus on Library Instruction and Orientation in the College and University Library." ******** Middle East Librarian's Association annual conference was held November 10-13, 1976 in Los Angeles and was attended by Dr. Rashid W u, Head of the Middle East Library. ******** |
