Show -13- ******** Richard Penman, Library Business Manager, conducted a seminar in early October for forty key staff members of the Princeton University Library. His discussion centered on the various budgeting methods and procedures available to large academic libraries. The purpose of the seminar was to bring an awareness of the alternative systems available to librarians as managers. A key point emphasized was that each method allowed for the expenditure of the libraries' resources based on the priorities established. Later in October, Mr. Denman spoke at a conference conducted by Indiana State University* This meeting had as its topic, "No Growth Budget: Implications for Academic Libraries." Approximately seventy library directors and their fiscal officers were in attendance. Mr. Denman specifically spoke on the application of a zero-base budgeting system to cope with the shrinking financial resources available with the continuing inflation of materials both in number and cost necessary to support the library's research responsibilities. ******** Gus Hanniball. formerly President of the Mountain Plains Library Association, was awarded the MPLA Distinguished Service Award at the annual luncheon held in Albuquerque November 13, 1976.
