Show 9. That upon the execution of this contract the District will deposit the sum of five thousand dollars ($5,000) with the Disbursing Officer of the United States Reclamation Service at Denver, Colorado, in consideration of the action of the Secretary of the Interior in having made available the sum of twenty thousand dollars ($20,000) pursuant to said contract of August 28, 1920, for use in connection with carrying on the above investigations. Provided, however, that the United States, with rhe approval of the Imperial Irrigation District, may enter into a further contract or contracts similar in terms and conditions with these presents providing for participation in and contribution to the cost of the work undertaken pursuant to said contract of August 28, 1920, on the part of other agencies as their respective interests may appear. Upon the payment to the United States of any acts by the District hereunder, or any other agencies contributing to the costs as hereinabove provided, in furtherance of the work outlined in said Act of Congress, it is understood that the amount thereof shall be deducted from the amount to be borne by the Imperial Irrigation District under the contract. Such deductions shall not however aggregate in excess of one-half of the total amount theretofore paid by the Imperial Irrigation District; and provided further that the moneys advanced by the State of Arizona for the investigations of Boulder Canyon and on the Gila River pursuant to contract with the United States dated January 9, 1920, shall not be included in the said deductions. |
