The telemetry system both cat controls the generator and monitors the operation of the generator. A UHF tro (417 MHz) frequency is used for the radio channel. The remote generator de1 station operates from rechargeable batteries and is designed for minimum m power requirements. The control station operates from commercial power eh: and uses a paper chart recorder to keep a record of generator performance, An output is available for interfacing to a magnetic tape recorder. Details 2. of the controller are given in Appendix C. 2. 3 Fr Aircraft Operations W, Beechcraft Queen Air aircraft from NCAR):, and Batelle):, were used for four winter seasons of diffusion tests. These diffusion tests were all conducted under VFR (visible flight rul es) flying conditions so that the operations pre· sented no major problems (except for finding the runway on several occasions , after the ceiling had. suddenly dropped over the entire area). During the last season, an EG&G Queen Air was used for aerial pyrotechnic ):,National Center for Atmospheric Research, Boulder, Colorado ):, Batelle Northwest Laboratories, Richland, Washington 18 SE si s1 fi r a |
