Indication from other data is that if the wind had shifted in a clockwise manner, pointing at Rabbit Ears momentarily, a single pulse might have been observed in the nuclei concentration. Case 4, Figure 76. The same pattern of an inversion existed up to about 1230 MST on January 25. At this time there was a wind shift and speed inc rease at Emerald, indicating a dissipation of the inversion. High nuclei c onc e ntrations were subsequently measured between 1310 and 1600 MST. This suggests the possibility that high concentrations of ice nuclei wer e built up und e r the inversion and were released during the first few hours after the stable layer was destroyed. 4. 1. 2 Conclusion It is evident that there is a good correlation between the wind velocity atop the 100 ft. tower at Emerald Mountain and the direction the silver iodid e plumes follow, as indicated by the surface nuclei count ·at Rabbit Ears. This agrees with the results of Fuquay, et al (1964) who found th e wind v e locity at the release point to be the primary factor in controlling the plume travel 125 |
