Show 39 been trying to solve some of the mysteries of Browning, but not very successfully, for I did not avail myself of the privilege of attending the Saturday morning class when I was at school. When twice a week I scan the columns of our college papers for news of 'g8, I congratulate myself that I belong to the semi-centennial class of old I. C, and many a time long for the old scenes and associations of our dear Alma Mater. More it is not necessary for me to say, for I heartily believe the sentiment of Emerson, that "the length of the discourse indicates the distance of thought between the speaker and his hearers." Sincerely, HELENA WHYTE. 6327 Parnell Ave., Chicago, 111., Jan. 31, i8gg. Class of 'g8:- It has been difficult to convince myself that the Class of 'g8 really belongs to the alumni of Iowa College, but since receiving a note asking for contributions to our class letter, all possibility of doubt has been removed. More than half of my school year is past and I am still alive. Some of my classmates who are teaching can imagine how I felt last September, upon coming here without any previous experience at teaching, to take charge of the school. However, all has gone well thus far, and the future is as bright as ever. Sometimes rather peculiar feelings come over me, as I see the boys disobeying the rules and yet doing precisely those things which I, in my "prep" days, delighted in doing. But conditions have now changed, and I "do unto the boys as I was done by." |
