Show more accustomed to it. I, at least, am learning a great deal. I took a course in Nick Carter last fall (borrowed the books from my pupils), but the reading matter-along that line has been scarce of late. My work is half High School and half in the grade below. I like the H. S. work better, I think. I have forty-four pupils enrolled. When our class is re-united in igoo, I may not be able to join inte'iligently in discussions of Kant, but I hope to be able to give you some pointers on the American boy as he is growed. Until then. I never thought of taking up this work last year until a suggestion was made to me just before commencement. And here I am in the midst of a very interesting work away down in Dixie, enjoying spring weather in January. Northern people here are the principal and his wife, a matron, a preceptress, and nine teachers, a somewhat small company when you consider the fact that for eight months we are confined solely to each others company. The ostracism here is complete, white people have nothing in common with "nigger teachers." N. T's is the proper name for us. Life here is to say the least somewhat dull. I can hardly realize that I am in my own country. The public schools here for the colored people take |
