Show 27 The board elected our principal to take the superintend-ency and consequently wanted the other two high school teachers to take more work, and more money; the latter we were quite eager to accept, and I am not averse to the extra work because it is just what I like to teach. Thus far nothing serious has happened, and I believe the old maid superintendent will be a success; but there is no telling what devilment is being planned for the week after vacation when all will be in good spirits. We have a aboratory which is very small and is not elaborately furnished with apparatus, but with the help of my boys we have succeded ia doing some satisfactory work. For the first Rhetoricals I had twelve girls to train for a fancy march, and we had great times learning a combination of three or four simple marches and a fancy step. I do have such good times with them in gymnasium work. We have begun clubs and have done quite a little Swedish work. Some of the girls were crazy to have "bloomers," but some of the mothers were not heartily in favor, so I thought best not to rush matters, and consequently we have no suits, much as I would like them. Before Thanksgiving I had Beth with me for a day, and how we did visit! At the teachers' convention at Council Bluffs I had the good fortune to see Dora Bagley, Milly Ford and Hal French. The convention didn't amount to much, but my visit to the Omaha schools and seeing I. C. people did me lots of good. I hope Hal will not be too painfully modest to tell of all he is doing. Thanksgiving vacation was a great one for four of us. Beth, Emily, Hattie and I spent it with Bess Gallaher, and I advise all who can get an invitation to go to Sloan. |
