Show posters on the hill £' J Mechatronics & Robotics in College of Engineering Charles Fisher, Danielle Put/, Mark Minor, Stephen Jacobsen Department of Mechanical Engineering Mechatronaics & Robotics in College of Engineering Charles Fisher, Danielle Putz, Mark Minor, Stephen Jacobsen Department of Mechanical Engineering he year long Mechatronics series is a collaboration of all classes for the Junior Mechanical Engineering student. It combines the use of mechanical design, manufacturing, strength of materials, electronics and circuitry, programming, and the most useful skills of problem solving and teamwork. The class is set up in a competition format where teams of 3-4 students work together for an entire year to design, build, and program an autonomous robot that will compete in the final competition. The Mechatronics class is a building block for other robotics courses at the University of Utah. It teaches basic control systems, how to analyze those systems as well as ways to adjust or compensate for systems that are created. With this class as a background, students may then apply their knowledge gained in Mechatronics towards a senior design project or further classes in control systems or robotics. The University of Utah's Mechatronics classes give students a taste for what a career in robotics and the high tech industry would be like. The basic control systems principles and background are a build- ing block of knowledge towards the immersion in a technologydriven world. These undergraduate classes give students a taste of what can be dreamed and achieved through robotics and serve to inspire students to continue their education. |
