Show On February 5, 1993, a site visit was made with Holman's chief engineer and myself to define the scope of work and to take measurements for the retrofit and location of the IIFIR" supply duct. The survey in9icated the modification would be relatively simple, requiring only a new flue gas/fuel gas internal with dual nozzle rows manifold to replace the existing two (2) external gas manifolds, a new swirler and a 20" supply duct running from the stack to the top of the wind box. An internal flue gas distribution tree would be built in the existing windbox to supply each of the four burners with flue gas. The existing burner registers and burner tile would remain in place. On February 19, 1993, the test burner was released for manufacture with the new IIFIR" manifold. All work was completed on February 26, 1993. The test was demonstrated on March 11, 1993 and witnessed by the TQM team. The results at 106 MM Btu/hr firing the blended fuel were: NOx = 0.067 Ibs/MM Btu CO = 3ppm ': 02 = 1.8% Dry Flame Length = 22 Feet Flame Diameter = 4 Feet Flame Color = Blue IIFIR" % = 3.5% The TQM team decided to proceed with the IIFIR" technology and shelve the axial flow burners, with four (4) completely built. The retrofit of the first boiler was completed on July 10, 1993, the second boiler on July 23, 1993, and the third boiler in August 1993. |
