Show I Page 8 In December 1991, a plan was implemented by John link Company to resolve the remaining two outstanding problems. Technical Consultant Outside Assistance John link Company retained the technical services of a competent and well known combustion and pollution control consultant to assist in a timely resolution. Flow Model Work and Test Protocol Definition John link Company issued a purchase order to build a 1/5 scale model of the windbox and furnace to perform a model test to study the flame pattern. Flow Model Results Based on the cold air flow model test results, the following characteristics of the system appeared to exist: 1 . The flow from the top burners split over the nose; part of the flow short circuited up above the nose and entered the screen tubes. Most of the flow turned down under the nose and forced the flow from the lower burners to tuck under, and produced a strong clockwise rotation in the aft lower section of the furnace. The flow, in order to finally escape the furnace, moved toward the front wall along the floor under the lower burners, and then turned up at the front wall. This upward thrust, in fact, forced the flow from the lower burners into the flow of the upper burners. The results of the model in fact duplicated the real world. 2. The model test showed an improvement of the flow in the furnace when the large 4" diameter pilots were removed. |
