Show MAX COWAN AUGUST 18, 1972 MC: The children, we have to have it mostly for them to fit the time, to fit the time. We have got to keep it revolving to fit the time, or otherwise it will just flow a~ay. HR: You think so? MC: I think it would. I think if we retain some of the Conservative elements with the Reform together, I think we might make it work. It is going to be a very difficult job. I have seen it work in a place or two, and I think maybe we can here. HR: You have seen it work? MC: Yes. I have seen it work in Santa Barbara, California. It works in Palm Springs especially, but Palm Springs is an exception because people there generally are retired. If they have a chance to go somewhere they will sure go. Like Synagogue. Some of them who hardly ever went. It is a good place to go, you know. It is a place to spend time. HR: It is interesting. RD: The Jews have always congregated together as a group for religious purposes and social purposes. When Jews, came upon hard times, would the community come to their aid? MC: Yes. When I came here they had what they called, I can't think of the name. It was like a little bank that they banded together. RD: Credit union? 34 |
