Show MAX COWAN AUGUST 18, 1972 RD: I see. What b r ought h im to Salt La ke? MC: Oh, he never did get here . I migrate d f r om Denver t o Salt Lake in 1930. RD: Oh, 1930. What sort of work did you do? MC: Well, originally when I came to Salt Lake, I was in the jewelry business. I worked for a jewelry store here, Anderson. Remember Anderson Jewelry? HR: Yes. MC: I worked for them because I had been in the jewelry business in Denver. That is, I was a jewelry clerk. I only worked for them a year. Then I went into the livestock business myself. That was a family business that I inherited. RD: I see. Is that the work you did throughout your life? MC: Well, that is what I done all my life here, all except one year. HR: When you came here how did you find the Jewish community? MC: Well, I think in numbers, they had as many Jews then as they have here now. In fact, they had the two Synagogues and the Temple. The Shaare Tzedek was still operating at that time. Remember? HR: We have discussed this. RD: We were talking about Shaare Tzedek congregation. How long was it in existence?
