Show OHI Jun Kuramada 8-24-84 s2:36 JK I think initially, it was my motehr's view that - either we in go to a field of our own, a profession, or into an area where we could compete on our own rather than be in a p~stion were we'd have to be hired by someonewbguld be discriminatory. And for that reason, bat I - mymther thought-- WEll, she wantedny older brother JOe to go inteo medicine. Which he did. He went into medicine until he dropped out of medicine. And went back into farming. And then later, when he went to Los Angeles, why he - he was hired by the - I think the state in the Grower's Market as an inspector or something of the sorts. I don'tknow just exactly what hi his capacity was there - But it was a a State job. SF Right. JK But, ater working in the Los Angeles markets for a while, he saw a sign which indicated an opening for produce and fruit inspector that would require somethingin the nature of a civil service examination. And he thought, well, why not. And he had a collgge education. So he figured well, he'd go in and take the examination. Ifhe fails it, why he's still got the ~her work that he's doing. If he passes it, why he might get another job And ev-idently, did well on ~e examination so he was assigned as a - !think it was a produce inspector, hired by the State. And so he kept that until oh let's see now, it would have to be about --- I guess it was about 8 years ago. When he retired. SF Now, when did he When did he go into that job. |
