I have a special place in my heart for this wonderful small town music festival. I was born in a log cabin ... on a hill ... during a blizzard ... in the little Wyoming coal mining town of Kemmerer. My Father, Mother, both Grandmothers, and my Great Grandfather were born in Wyoming. The Oyster Ridge Music Festival (OysterRidgeMusicFestival.com) is now in its 12th year. Kemmerer is only 130 miles from SLC, and the Fest remains Wyoming's largest free music festival (yes, free)! Everyone in this small western community work together to present this fun and folksy three day festival. There are over 20-vender booths providing unique crafts, liquid libations and great western foods. The weather was great at 7,200 feet elevation, with warm days and cool nights. There were several great camping areas right in town (and we jammed all night every night). The music and entertainment is non-stop for all three days. There were over a dozen top notch regional and national bands interspersed with other fun events such as the "Almost Famous Band Scramble"; several high quality music workshops; a 22-mile mountain bike poker run, pancake breakfasts; and, the Wyoming State Flat-pick and Wyoming State Finger Style Instrument Championships. Winners of the Band Scramble were "Cont." next page '1\'bm I 11!1.1: ot..U lbe pect*: vtKi ADITUI:IIb~d~"' R!!I'.U Ill ya~tl:-.ahs ae: plumbu4.• |
