Once again, Bicknell Utah, is featuring a midwinter program of bluegrass and downhome string music for the residents of Wayne County. For the benefit of you city slickers, Bicknell is a tiny jewel by the Fremont River on the main road to Capitol Reef National Park, and a long ways from the city lights. The local string music guru and bluegrass evangelist is, of course, Ad us Dorsey-formerly of Salt Lake City, currently of Torrey, an even tinier jewel a few miles down the road from the pages of many issues of this magazine. Since moving to Torrey, Ad us has burrowed tirelessly into the musical sou'! of Wayne County, converting the local cowboys into bluegrass and string music fans. This year's winter program-produced by Ad us under his "Polecat Productions" logo-features the Bluegrass Conspiracy, Utah's premier bluegrass group. Opening for them will be a local crew known only as the "To Be Announced Band." The Conspiracy is well known in the Salt Lake area for its mete- Bicknell. Shortly after the 4 Intermountain Acoustic Musician, January 1993 Deer Valley festival in Septembe~, Speters left the band to move to California with his new bride, Lisa Donovan (a pretty fair guitarist in her own right). Replacing him in the Conspiracy is Dave Hunt, veteran of several regional bands and an outstanding guitar and fiddle player (in 1989 he took first in the Utah State Flatpicking competition, and second in the Fiddle competition). Salt Lake jammers will remember Dave from many Sugarhouse Park sessions, and from the fact that he appears to be several feet taller than everybody around him.
