Show PRINCETON UNIVERSITY PRINCETON, NEW JERSEY z.3 ', rfi A c* Defartment of Art and Archaeology February 2, i960 Professor Aziz Atiya, Department of Languages, University of Utah, Salt Lake City, Utah. Dear Aziz: I stepped into Mr. Rice's office the other day and saw your icon decorating his office for the moment, before it goes into the exhibition room. I take this occasion to tell you once more how grateful I am for your kindness in letting us have this icon for the exhibition. Nobody can realize more than I myself what it means to you to be parted from the icon for some time, since I am so fully aware that more than money value is here involved. But I can assure you that Mr. Rice is a very responsible person, and he has assured me that this icon will be shown in a glass case. It is only a pity that you cannot come and see the exhibition. Among the many items which Mr. Rice has dug up Is an early fifteenth-century manuscripts of the pilgrimage of a certain Jacobus of Verona. In this manuscript is the earliest drawing in existence of the monastery and its surroundings. But I cannot go into details; we will have photos made of the most important items, and there will be a time, I am sure, when I at least will be able to show you the photographs. I hope that you and Lola and the children are well. With my most cordial greetings from house to house, Yours as ever, |
