Show 23',0/ SO Friday, May 11th . Dear Dr. Atiya: A note at the end of the week to let you know that everything is O.K.- and to forward the last of the week's mail. About the list - the typing is finished - and the proof reading is almost finished. I'll have everything corrected, assembled and ready by the 18th, which is supposedly nay last day. I know you told me not to deliver the material until you had first seen it. Of course, if the 18th (next Fri.) is my last day, I don't know what provisions will be made from up above. I'll let you know exactly what, does happen. - There are actually a few discrepancies in the hand-list, such as spelling - omission of Material - that I would like to have you check as I have referred unsuccessfully to the card file. I'm not too happy about the page-for-page spacing of the list - I rather foolishly tried in the beginning to get each page to come out evenly at the bottom and tried not to break up an entry at the bottom of a page unless absolutely necessary, with the result that there is not always the same amount of typing per page. However, Mr. Barcus told me when I questioned him about this point sometime ago, that it is the correctness and clearness of the typed material that is important and not the spacing, as no conclusions have yet been arrived at relative to the printing and publication. I will do my best with it- Too, Mr. Barcus suggests I number the pages in pencil consecutively. Hope you received the mail I forwarded to the St. Francis Hotel, and the note concerning Mr. Nolan's inquiry about the material you & he had previously discussed. As per your instructions, I'll send any further correspondence, etc. to Tacoma until the 19th. A Mr. Milan Herzog, Encyclopedia Brittanica Films, Wilmett, Illinois, was in the office a few days ago. He is preparing a motion picture for State Dept. on Oriental Institute in Chicago, directed to the students & intelligeneia of the East, countries (Egypt to Persia) to deal with the Inst, as a center for thedissemination of cultural - educational info. They thought you might be able to add a few interesting notes. We, of course, didn't go into the matter very thoroughly - as he said it »ould be brought to your attention by other interested parties in near future. He may write to you . or perhaps you could contact him if you care to. Dr. Henry Field was in yesterday. Hoped you could get together socially. He inquired as to the progress of the work and asked if it would be possible for him to receive a copy of the finished material when it is printed. (He came in at a most convenient moment, as someone from Orientalia was here with a picture taken at St; Catherine's and trying to identify one of the monks, for some sort of a departmental publication .They thought it was the Archbishop - I didn't know - but Dr. Field was able to straighten us out - definitely not the ArchMbshop - but the Librarian.) For your reference Dr. Field's office phone is ST. 4.851 and his home address - 2713 Dumbarton Ave., N.W. I'll make a note of it on your desk list. /• - If \ |
