Show Aziz S. Atiya -2- April 22, 1955 • Mediaeval Academy and instructed them, with their approval, not to call your award the Mediaeval Academy Professorship but instead, the Mediaeval Academy Fellowship. I am sure you will have no objections to the latter title, inasmuch as there will be no change at all in your position here. Had we called it a Professorship, it would have meant that 30$ of the total J8000 would have been withheld. This change in title simply means that you are enabled to claim an infinitely greater tax exemption. By the same token, however, it now appears infinitely more advisable that your title here at the University be not Visiting Professor, but Visiting Lecturer. Prom the standpoint of the University faculty, as a matter of fact, the latter is in many respects more advantageous, more honorary and assuredly more remunerative. I trust that I have made myself clear. I would be very grateful if you would confirm, by letter, and as soon as possible, your acceptance of this arrangement. I was, for a time, deeply distressed lest the potential income be inadequate, but these negotiations indicated above appear to have worked out to the advantage of all concerned. I do hope that they meet with your approval. Sincerely, George G. Cameron GGC:cg |
